Freaky Hurricane

A few years ago, I wrote an article about some truly surprising logo and jersey designs considered by NHL teams in 1990s. One of those was a logo Ken Loh created for the Carolina Hurricane — that's singular, as in one hurricane.

Cameron Ferguson was inspired by that logo and put together a pair of uniforms to imagine what the relocated Hartford Whalers could've looked like during that first year in North Carolina. It's awesome but it's freaking me out.

New Uniforms All Around

It's a record-breaking day. The NHL and Adidas will reveal new uniforms for all 31 teams today. That demanded something special on the Concepts page. Something that acknowledges every team. So here we go.

Lucas Daitchman has been one of our most prolific contributors for a while now — with more than 200 unposted submissions sitting in my inbox at this moment. I'd like to shrink that number a bit by giving him the floor today — one concept for each team plus a special bonus at the end. Enjoy!

Kicking Up Waves

Lucas Daitchman may have been inspired by the waves on the old fisherman Islanders jerseys from the 1990s, but to be honest, it sort of works for the Hurricanes.

Freak Storm

Felix Puchinsky has been working on a handful of logo ideas for the Carolina Hurricanes. And for all their simplicity, they're pretty freaky. Got any favorites?

When the Hurricanes redesigned their uniforms in 2013, they were aiming for a more traditional style. But while they may have achieved that, I always thought they lost a little bit of their personality. That's why I love concepts like this one from Ryan Christensen — nothing crazy but at least it would be a unique look in the league.
