Millionaires jerseys return for championship centennial

On March 26, 1915, the Vancouver Millionaires won the first — and so far only — Stanley Cup championship in the city's history.

On the 100th anniversary of that victory, their sweaters will be worn again by the team that represents the city today.

Next Thursday, the Vancouver Canucks will break out their Millionaires jerseys for the third season in a row in celebration of Vancouver's Stanley Cup centennial.

The announcement came today as players skated in Millionaires gear during this morning's practice.

The throwback uniforms are gorgeous but haven't exactly been lucky charms. They've been worn by the Canucks in two prior games.

On March 16, 2013, Vancouver lost 5-2 to the Red Wings. And they fell 4-2 to the Senators in the 2014 NHL Heritage Classic on March 2 at B.C. Place.

Perhaps 2015 will bring better fortune. For what it's worth, the Millionaires swept the best-of-five Stanley Cup Final in 1915, winning the final game 12-3.
